‘Erythritol’, a safe natural sweetener exhibits multi-stage anti-malarial activity by permeating into Plasmodium falciparum through aquaglyceroporin channel
2022, Biochemical PharmacologyCitation Excerpt :Erythritol has potent anti-plasmodial activity profile against multiple life-cycle stages, and excellent drug-like properties which has major implications for ensuring patient compliance and practical deployment. A study by Tetzloff et al, 1996 demonstrated that erythritol consumption upto 1gm/kg does not cause any side effects [44]. Additionally, a study by Bornet et al., 1996 has demonstrated that consuming 1gm/kg erythritol raised its plasma erythritol levels to 2.2 mg/ml (18 mM) after 90 min [45].
